With The Wind

For the past number of days Bonnie and I have taken up a lot of cycling in our spare time.  The reason? We are training for a long trip this weekend, which we are undertaking with some friends for our Duke of Edinburgh Hilary Awards.  We will be cycling over 100 km in two days, laden with food, bedding, tents etc.  Although really looking forward to the trip, we need to be prepared so that the whole venture can be a success.

Like I mentioned before, we are going for lots of small trips these days leading up to the main one.  Normally I like to ride a particular route near our home, a rail-trail that goes past a number of country fields and farms.  The expanse is so beautiful, and with a tail wind the riding is really pleasant and makes for a smooth journey.  Unfortunately, we aren't always met with such and often get caught with a powerful head wind.  This turns everything around -it becomes very hard going very quickly!  Once you turn and continue with the wind it instantly becomes easier and you would never know the real force until you start going against it again.

As Christians, we need to keep our lives stream-lined with our Lord Jesus.  Going against Him means a lot of trial and effort that can never go very far.  Just like biking into the wind drops your speed and causes much more weariness so we will only tire out our souls by trying to continue without Him alongside us.

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" -Romans 8:31 NIV
