4 Things About Summer

A new season brings new things to look forward to and a chance to find other things to enjoy.  I love all the seasons, each one providing its own special something in its own unique way.  In this post I'm going to look at some of the things that I like especially about summer.

-Long mild evenings for family trips.  Just last night after dinner our family went for a lovely walk in the beautiful forests of Halswell Quarry.  The weather was very warm and we are looking forward to going back another evening!

-Summer fruits... in our family we love fruit, whether a juicy peach or handful of sweet berries.  This also creates an opportunity for preserving, so I always spend hours in the kitchen cooking the current type on hand... yesterday I made 4 bottles of tomato sauce, which will be such a welcome change as we ran out several months ago so have been making do without our sauce...!  This morning I also made a number of bottles of plum preserves.

-School holidays.  As I mentioned in this post, I really enjoy the summer holidays as a break from schoolwork, giving a chance for a variety of other projects.

-New life... summer is a time for baby budgies. After the eggs hatch and the babies have (finally!) fledged it is well into the summer months.

The busy parents... notice the babies peeping around the corner!

Other miscellaneous summer ventures include enjoying remaining Christmas treats, picnics, trips to the reserve for sports or a walk, pet-sitting animals in our neighbourhood while their owners are away (we love meeting all the different animals) and using our swimming pool which is unheated and freezing cold but great on the hot summer days!

I hope you have a wonderful summer and feel refreshed for the year ahead.

    1. I think so too, although I'm probably a little biased... Baby animals always seem so fluffy and cute!
